Governor Sani Bello Extols Nursing Professionals in the Country

The Niger state governor , Alh Abubakar Sani Bello has described Nursing and Midwifery as very important professions that deserves attention and support to succeed.
Alh Sani Bello gave the commendation through the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abubakar Baba Aliyu when received members of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria NMCN in Company of officials from the Ministry of Health and management team of the college of Nursing Science at the ministry’s conference hall on behalf of the Governor recently.

The Governor disclosed that Nurses are very important because there’s always constant contact time between Nurses and patients compared to doctors hence the need to increase their numbers in the country.
He pointed out that the tussle between the ministry of Health and Tertiary Education over the years on ownership of health institution should an issue because the ministry of Health suppose to be in charge of clinics while Tertiary Education is responsible for training thus make the both ministry’s very important and therefore behoves on the both ministries to ensure that standard are maintained in schools.

Prof. Baba Aliyu then urged the council on the need to checkmate the proliferation of health institutions in the State so as not to give opportunity for quackery to thrive, adding that there should be a balance between making profit and quality education particularly in private establishment.

The Commissioner for Health who was represented by Director Nursing Services of the ministry, Hajiya Hadiza L Mohammed emphasized that the requirements on the checklist as stipulated by the council will not be compromised.

Earlier, the Registrar thanked the Governor for the warm reception while added that the council was established to regulates the establishing of any Nursing and Midwifery institutions and to ensure standard are put in place for regular training as health sector are critical to the societies.

He further explained that council is determine to provide an enabling environment to support government in areas filling the gap of shortage of Nurses as a result of drain in the country.
