Kwara State Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi today was in Patigi Local Government Area to sympathise with the people over the recent flooding in the communities.
Mr Alabi, who was received by the Emir of Patigi and Vice Chairman, His Royal Highness Ibrahim Umar Bologi II, offered Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s sympathies to the community over the flood incident.
He added that Governor AbdulRazaq would be briefed on the assessment visit and that the government will take swift action to provide succour to the victims.
” I can assure you of quick intervention as soon as I brief His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to bring relief and palliative materials to the victims of flood disaster”.
At the flooded Gbaradogi Community in Patigi, the Deputy Governor appealed to those living at the river bank to relocate to a safer place to avoid recurrence.
“Flood is a natural disaster. The best thing, for now, is for our people to move away from the flood-prone area to a better place. That’s the sure way to avert the disaster”.
Responding, the Emir of Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Bologi II appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the government of Kwara State for identifying with the people in a time of distress.
Alhaji Umar appealed to the government to come to the aid of his people by offering a permanent solution to the flood which he said has become an annual disaster in the area.
Mallam Kpotun Jubril, who spoke on behalf of Gbaradogi Community, explained that the people of the community, who are majorly farmers and fishermen, have lost properties and farm produce worth several millions of naira to the flood.
Mallam Jubril added that the people of the community were willing to relocate away from the area and solicited for government’s support in that direction.
