The Executive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Nwike has lampooned those Nigerians condemning the choice of the APC Presidential running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, says the noise over the choice of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is not what Nigerians needed at the moment but a good leader who can deliver on the dividend of Democracy.
The Governor made this outburst during the commissioning of projects in Rivers State, with the Speaker of the House of Representative, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila in attendant to commission the projects.
Nwike, many suspected is on his way to the ruling All Progressive Congressive (APC) due to the fall-out of the Peoples Democratic Party’s primary election recently; but the governor has not made his intention known on the speculations.
Wike on Friday, at the commissioning, however, issues statements that indicate the governor has indeed jettisoned his loyalty to the main opposition, the PDP.
“For those who are making noise over a Muslim/Muslim Ticket, all we needed is good governance, whether It is Muslim/Muslim, Christian/Christian, or a pagan to pagan, all we need in Nigeria is a credible leader who will give us the much needed good governance.” the governor said.
Nyesom Wike also breaks silence on a suit seeking Atiku’s removal as PDP Presidential Candidate:
“I don’t know anything about the so-called suit. I did not ask anyone to file any suit for me,” the Rivers state governor said in Port-Harcourt.
There have been media reports that Governor Wike and one PDP chieftain, Newgent Ekamon, had dragged the PDP to court seeking the removal of Atiku as the PDP presidential candidate.
According to the purported suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/782/2022, the plaintiffs were said to have hinged their claims because the PDP primary conferred an undue advantage on Atiku which aided his emergence as a candidate of the PDP in the May 28 and 29 primaries. Reacting to the publication on Friday, Wike flatly denied the suit said to have been filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
He described the suit as the handiwork of mischief makers who merely want to use him to score cheap political goals. He stated emphatically, “I don’t know the lawyers”.
Continuing, he said, “am I a kid to be filing a suit at this time? I had 14 days after the primary within which to have filed any suit. I didn’t do that then, is it two months after primary I will file a suit?
He also recalled that “just yesterday they came up with the claim that I ordered my Chief Security Officer to pull down PDP flag in Government House. This is all false, it’s all propaganda. Some people are trying to use me to win the election. Please disregard all these lies”.
Speaking, Nwike sounds a note of warning to those he described as politicians who are bent on denigrating his name over the fracas in PDP.
The governor pointed an accusing finger at the PDP Presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar’s allies, as the naysayers who are fuelling seed of discord between him and the Atiku political movement to castigate him.
“I am warning those politicians around the Presidential candidate of the PDP, to desist henceforth from attacking me. I have maintained my silence this while.”
“I want to tell them that I have not started any campaign of calumny against them o!”
“They better allow me to be now, because if I start my own, hmmm!, If I should start with them, hmmm!!”. Wike warns.
